Anointing of the Sick

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick celebrates Jesus’ healing presence in the church. The sacrament concerns itself with those who are ill, aged and those, young or old, who need healing in their lives, in body, mind and spirit.

St. James tells us, “If there are any sick among you, let them send for the priests of the Church and let the priests pray over them, anointing them in the name of the Lord.  The prayer of faith will save the sick persons, and if they have committed any sins, their sins will be forgiven them.”

We encourage all our parishioners who have made their first communion to be anointed when they begin to be in danger of death, that is at the onset of a serious illness or infirmity, for the Sacrament of Anointing is a sacrament of the sick, not of the dying. (Catechism #1514)
